Why Choose Caravan Classroom?

At Caravan Classroom, we believe temporary home schooling while travelling deserves a different approach.

Our family has been travelling Australia full time with school-aged children, and we're home schooling on the road too. We understand the excitement, the unpredictability and the reality of life in a caravan because we're living it every day. Not on weekends or during school holidays, but as our family's everyday life.

As a registered teacher, I also understand the Australian Curriculum and what children are expected to learn at each year level. Caravan Classroom was created to bring these two worlds together, helping families confidently navigate the Australian Curriculum while embracing the incredible learning opportunities that travelling Australia provides.

A Simple Approach That Just Makes Sense

Rather than trying to recreate a classroom inside your caravan, we believe in understanding the curriculum first, then using your travels to bring it to life.

1. Know what the Australian Curriculum actually involves

Confidence begins with clarity.

Our plans show exactly what is included in your child's year level of the Australian Curriculum. We include curriculum codes, descriptions and direct hyperlinks throughout our plans so you can see exactly where the information comes from. No guesswork, no hidden interpretations - just complete transparency. This is a no-nonsense, quality approach to home schooling while travelling.

2. Refine your plan

Not every family needs to cover every activity.

By understanding the curriculum, you can confidently remove content your child has already mastered or that doesn't suit your family's goals. Our fully editable plans make it easy to customise learning without starting from scratch. This is why we provide a complete overview from day 1, so that you can make informed decisions about what to cover.

3. Lean into adventure as learning

Australia becomes your classroom.

Museums, beaches, national parks, historical sites and everyday travel experiences provide incredible opportunities for meaningful learning. We encourage families to intentionally connect these experiences back to the Australian Curriculum through purposeful conversations and activities. Our learning intentions provided throughout our plans provide clarity to support you when having intentional conversations during hands on learning moments.

4. Recognise incidental learning

Some of the best learning happens naturally.

The conversations around the campfire, calculating distances between destinations, meeting new people and exploring different environments all contribute to your child's education. These moments matter, and they count. Simply tick or cross out areas that are covered through experiences, no need to double up.

5. Identify when theory-based learning is needed

While much learning happens through experience, not all learning happens this way.

Some concepts require explicit teaching, practice and repetition. We help families recognise what areas require a focus on theory before heading back out to experience it.

6. Use diverse learning resources

No single resource can teach everything.

That's why our plans encourage families to draw on books, websites, documentaries, educational apps, museums, visitor centres, conversations and the incredible places you'll discover around Australia. No login, complete, repeat here!

Created Specifically for Travelling Families

Our resources aren't classroom lessons squeezed into a travel format.

They're designed specifically for life on the road.

We understand that some days you're driving hundreds of kilometres. Other days you're set up in one place for a week. Trying to complete theory-heavy learning on travel days simply isn't realistic.

Instead, we encourage families to establish flexible learning routines that work with their travel lifestyle while still ensuring their children continue developing the knowledge and skills expected for their year level.

Why We Don't Create Multi-Year Programs

The Australian Curriculum isn't written as a multi-year curriculum.

Each year level contains specific knowledge, skills and achievement standards that build on previous learning.

While there are themes that naturally overlap between year levels, the curriculum expectations remain distinct. That's why Caravan Classroom provides year-level specific plans from Prep to Year 10 rather than broad, one-size-fits-all programs.

Transparency Matters

We're passionate about helping parents understand the Australian Curriculum, not simply asking them to trust us.

That's why every learning block includes curriculum codes and descriptions, along with hyperlinks to the official Australian Curriculum. We want you to know exactly what you're teaching, why you're teaching it and where it fits within your child's learning journey. No grey areas, just complete clarity and transparency.

Ready When You Are

Our plans are available as an immediate digital download, allowing you to get started straight away.

They can be used to support home school registration in every Australian state and territory where home schooling while travelling is supported. At the time of writing, this excludes New South Wales, where extended travel while registered for home schooling is generally not supported.

We are proud to have a 100% success rate with families using our plans to support their home school registration applications (outside of NSW).

However, our plans are designed to do far more than simply satisfy registration requirements.

While many education plans prepared solely for registration are only a few pages long, Caravan Classroom plans range from approximately 40 to 99 pages, depending on the year level. They provide a comprehensive parent guide to understanding and implementing the Australian Curriculum while travelling Australia.

Rather than spending hours interpreting curriculum documents and creating an education plan from scratch, you can begin with a comprehensive, fully editable plan that has already been carefully mapped to the Australian Curriculum. Simply customise it to suit your child, your travel plans and your family's learning goals.

Learning That Works for Your Family

Our plans cover all 8 areas of the Australian Curriculum while giving you complete flexibility. Not because we think you need to cover it all, but because we know that parents are the best people to make choices regarding their child's education - informed choices.

Choose what to teach.

Choose when to teach it.

Choose where learning happens.

Whether that's around the campfire, beside a waterfall, inside a museum or sitting at the caravan table with a workbook, the choice is yours.

Our goal isn't to tell you how to home school. Our goal is to give you the confidence to make informed decisions that suit your child, your travels and your family's unique journey.

Because when you understand what the curriculum actually involves, home schooling on the road becomes far less overwhelming.

You stop feeling like you need to capture every possible learning opportunity and instead focus on the experiences that matter most.

That's why we created Caravan Classroom.

Don't just take our word for it - read what other travelling families have to say about their experience with Caravan Classroom.
