Free Resources Worth Exploring

One of my favourite parts of putting together this newsletter is discovering high-quality, free educational resources to share with our Caravan Classroom community.

Each month, I'll be featuring a selection of resources that I think are genuinely worth your time and may help support your child's learning journey while travelling. Likewise, if you stumble across something you think other travelling families would benefit from, I'd love to hear from you!

Literacy Hub

If you've been following Caravan Classroom for a while, you'll know I'm a strong advocate for evidence-based literacy development. The Literacy Hub is an excellent initiative designed to support children as they learn to read. It provides resources for educators, school leaders and families, and is packed with practical information based on current research.

Some of my favourite resources include:

Introduction to Systematic Synthetic Phonics – A fantastic series of introductory modules explaining the principles behind systematic synthetic phonics.

Teaching Reading Professional Learning – Free professional learning modules (a free account is required, but you can use any email address to register).

Phonics and Morphology Lesson Packs – Ready-to-use lesson packs, complete with an explainer video demonstrating how to use them effectively.

Resources for Families – Practical information and activities to help support literacy learning at home.

Whether you're looking to better understand how children learn to read or simply want additional teaching ideas, this website is well worth bookmarking.

National Geographic Education

If your child enjoys learning through exploration, National Geographic offers a fantastic collection of free educational resources. You'll find everything from interactive maps and videos to lesson ideas, units of work and printable activities covering a wide range of topics.

Be warned though - this is one of those websites where it's very easy to lose track of time! There is so much to explore, making it a fantastic resource for curious learners.

Educate Magazine

While travelling through Adelaide, I picked up a free education magazine called Educate. Although the magazine showcases many schools throughout the Adelaide region, it also includes a wealth of valuable information for parents. This edition features popular primary school teacher and education content creator Mr Luke, along with articles and ideas that many families will find both practical and engaging. You can find issue #11 here.

Free Caravan Classroom Resource

This month, we're also sharing our FREE TEEEL Paragraph Writing Scaffold. Designed for upper primary and secondary students, it provides a simple structure to help children organise their ideas and write clear, well-supported paragraphs across a range of subject areas.

And don't forget to explore the Caravan Classroom website, where you'll find a growing collection of free guides and resources designed to support travelling families on their home schooling journey.
